Joel Carini

Joel Carini is a philosopher and theologian whose work explores the relationship between Christian theology, philosophy, and the natural world. He completed graduate studies in philosophy and theology, including an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Chicago and an M.Div. from Westminster Theological Seminary. He is earning his Ph.D. in Philosophy at Saint Louis University.

Carini's academic research concerns the relationship of language to the world, focusing on philosophical views that ground the meaning of language in our reference to external objects. This topic has implications for whether and how language can serve as a point of contact in the apologetic encounter between Christians and non-Christians. His other research interests include ethics, moral psychology, and the relationship between faith and reason. His essays and articles have appeared in various theological and cultural publications, and he writes regularly at his Substack newsletter.

Before his graduate studies, Carini studied music and philosophy at Wheaton College. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife Dr. Anna Carini, a biblical counselor, and their children.
